Expectations for Students & Parents
STUDENTS

Students and parents are required to complete an online Orientation in which they electronically verify a Code of Student Conduct and Parent Contract indicating that they understand the expectations and procedures of eAcademy, including the Probationary Admissions and plagiarism policies. Students are to adhere to a code of academic honesty, and plagiarism is considered grounds for assignment or course failure, and suspension or expulsion from the program.  All Olathe Public School Policies apply to eAcademy.
Students should be aware that online courses are NOT easier than being in the classroom. Due to the time it takes to; communicate by reading instructions, typing discussions, and assignments, etc. students should expect to commit a minimum of one hour per day per course at the computer with possible additional homework time offline.
Students must have prerequisite computer skills including email use, file management, creating Microsoft Office files such as Word documents, PowerPoint, text files, etc. Documents are often posted or sent in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.  It is usually necessary to install software or plugins on your computer to complete a course.  If needed, additional free course software (other than Office software) will be downloaded and installed from links provided by the eAcademy or instructors.  Students are required to use their student (school) Gmail account for all correspondence in all aspects of the program.  Tech support information and links for students and parents are located on the Technical page.
PARENTS
Parents are a key element in the success of online students. It is very important for parents to encourage students to keep up to date with assignments and meet deadlines. Students are expected to log in and provide parents course access to check electronic grade books and to communicate with the course instructor if any questions arise. Students and parents are required to complete an online Orientation and electronically verify a Code of Student Conduct and Parent Contract indicating that they understand the expectations and procedures of eAcademy, including the Probationary Admissions and plagiarism policies.
