Expectations for Students & Parents
STUDENTS
Sudents taking eAcademy courses are expected to complete all assigned coursework as set by the course instructor and to adhere to the course syllabus including deadlines. It may be necessary to visit the eAcademy office on a few occasions to pick up texts or other materials. All mid-term and final exams are taken by the student at the eAcademy Office or another specified high school location under the supervision of eAcademy staff.  Exam times and locations are posted in classes and emailed to students.
Students and parents are required to complete an online Orientation and electronically verify a Code of Student Conduct and Parent Contract indicating that they understand the expectations and procedures of eAcademy, including the Probationary Admissions and plagiarism policies. Students are to adhere to a code of academic honesty, and plagiarism is considered grounds for assignment or course failure, and suspension or expulsion from the program.  All Olathe Public School Policies apply to eAcademy.
Students should be aware that online courses are NOT easier than being in the classroom. Due to the time it takes to communicate by reading instructions, typing discussions and assignments, and etc., students should expect to commit a minimum of one hour per day per course at the computer with possible additional homework time offline.
Students must have prerequisite computer skills including email use, file management, creating Microsoft Office files such as Word documents, PowerPoint, text files, etc. Documents are often posted or sent in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.  It may be necessary to install software or plugins on your computer in order to complete a course.  If needed, additional free course software (other than Office software) may be downloaded from links provided by the eAcademy or instructors.  Students are required to use their student (school) email account for all correspondence with other students, instructors, and eAcademy.  Tech support files for students and parents are located on the Technical page.
PARENTS
Parents are a key element in the success of online students. It is very important for parents to encourage students to keep up to date with assignments and meet deadlines. Students are expected to log in and provide parents course access to check electronic grade books, and to communicate with the course instructor if any questions arise. Students and parents are required to complete an online Orientation and electronically verify a Code of Student Conduct and Parent Contract indicating that they understand the expectations and procedures of eAcademy, including the Probationary Admissions and plagiarism policies.
Parents may also be asked to complete and sign a Parent Log (for state audit) in September as students complete work at home. Complete instructions and forms are mailed a week before the due date. As students log their time, parents are to initial and verify the accuracy of the log. This is important for the administrative accounting that eAcademy has to do for our program. Tech support for students and parents is located on the Technical page.
