Course Delivery
eAcademy uses web-based course management systems (Moodle or Edgenuity) to deliver course content. Courses are designed by Olathe teachers and maintained by the instructors of the various courses, are aligned with Olathe District Schools’ traditional classroom curriculum, and contain content that has been modified for electronic instruction. eAcademy may also integrate online course content provided by textbook companies and other curriculum vendors.
Students are expected to provide their own computer, Internet access, and Microsoft Office software, and must have the ability to download files from the Internet and install software on their computer. Being able to manage computer software such as keeping your browser updated, controlling firewalls, turning off popup blockers, etc. is required.
Microsoft Word is requiredPowerPoint or Excel may be needed. Computer Essentials covers all four office applications so Access is also required for this course. Students who are not proficient with computer management, and students unskilled in handling and managing electronic files may struggle with organization.
Students are required to use student (school) Gmail accounts for all correspondence with eAcademy instructors and eAcademy staff and must be able to send and receive attachments. Generally, all courses offered through eAcademy will run on a standard desktop or laptop computers, and in multiple browsers.  They will not run on mobile devices such as an iPad or phone. Installing plugins such as Java or Flash is usually necessary.  Courses occasionally use local software programs that run from software CDs, provided to students as part of their course materials. These may include instructional or tutorial applications, and text on CD. Audio or video CDs may also be provided.
Office Software
Office 365 –  All district students get Office 365 and OneDrive with 1 terabyte of online storage at no cost. Office 365 lets students install the latest version of Office on up to five personal computers or Macs and on other mobile devices, including Windows tablets, iPads, iPhones and Android phones. Mac users should be okay with Safari but can also install Firefox or Chrome.  Internet Explorer and Edge have complex security features that often block multimedia content, and are not recommended for eAcademy course work.   Use the links below to get CLEAN install files to install or update these browsers on your computer.
