ABLE stands for Assets to Build Leadership Education

Camp ABLE Bldg ColorStudent Development will host a fifth grade Camp ABLE session at your elementary school during the 2016-2017 school year.  Each school will have only one Camp ABLE session after school.   

The sessions will run from 3:40-5:00 p.m. in your gym and can include up to 25-30 fifth-grade students. A light snack and drink will be served to the students before we get started.

Camp ABLE sessions focus on support, empowerment, positive identity, and bullying behaviors. ABLE is a program to build and strengthen students’ leadership skills through interactive exercises. All of the activities that we introduce are designed to embrace each student even if he or she is not comfortable in the spotlight. Students seem to get more from the experience while participating with their peers at their own school.

The innovative “Leadership in Civics” middle school curriculum, developed by Olathe Public Schools administrators Jennifer Stoskopf and Kerry Lane, has been incorporated in these sessions.  ABLE utilizes asset language and experiences to frame and set the tone for the leadership development class.

Camp ABLE sessions are great way to encourage each participating student to expand on their leadership skills and encourage others to do the same as they navigate through several exciting and activity-packed activities.
